I love coffee. Sometimes people try to switch my coffee to decaf when I’m not looking. I can always tell the difference. I also like Pringles, but only the reduced fat kind because they crunch better when you bite into them and they don’t leave grease on your fingers. I’m…

When I was looking to buy my wedding invitations (back in April), I found a lot of designers on Etsy. After narrowing it down to a couple different designs/companies, I contacted both for their pricing list. One was pretty significantly more expensive–almost $2 per invitation more. Which I think all…

When talking to people about photography, I hear one phrase over and over again: Kids and dogs are the hardest subjects to photograph.
I, personally, don’t have this problem with my clients…kids and dogs are among my favorite things to photograph. Maybe it’s because I like to have any excuse…

Last week, Sean and I had our morning coffee on the balcony and watched as the Enterprise shuttle was pulled down the Hudson on a tug boat. It’s on its way to the Intrepid and I can’t wait to see it up close at the museum!

Playtime

You’d think that Sean would have learned by now that getting onto the floor to “cuddle” with the dogs always results in them wanting to play. Here, in this photo, Luna is batting at Sean’s hand, trying to get him to hand over the toy. And she’s not a very patient pup.

Pascha

Pascha

Right, ok. So, you caught me…this is totally not Luna. But I thought that maybe you all were a bit tired of her crazy mug. So, I thought I’d introduce you to Pascha. Pascha is the sweetest and coolest cat I’ve ever known. She is cuddly and acts more like a dog than some of those tiny breeds Manhattan women carry around in their purses all day.

She belonged to my old boss at the magazine and when I was in the office writing, she would try to lay down across my laptop in an attempt to garner some attention. And I’d have to weigh it out…”Hmm, get work done or play with the kitty….get WORK done or play with the adorable kitty? Get work done and get my paycheck sooner or have fun, cuddle time with this cutie who I am deathly allergic to?”

Believe it or not, the cat who I am deathly allergic to won every time. God, I’m a sucker.

Too Much Playtime

Too Much Playtime

This photo is of Maddie when she was about two years old. I lived across the hall from Maddie and Liza at the time and used to babysit a lot. Maddie wasn’t allowed to watch tv very often and movies were only allowed as a special treat, so to respect her mom’s wishes, I would spend the entire time babysitting her playing dress up, and tea parties…we’d put on a cd and dance around, pretending to be rock stars. We’d dance around the living room pretending to be ballerinas. We’d play “parachute” where we would take sheets off the beds and run around, jumping off the couch pretending to be parachuting from a plane. Basically, I had to get very creative with playtime.

And after one particularly rigorous session of play, Maddie collapsed on the floor.

“Hey, bear…you ok? I thought you wanted to have a tea party next”

She didn’t answer, but kept laying there staring blankly at the wall.

“Maddie? You ok?”

“Paci…” she said in a whiny voice.

“Paci’s only for naptime. You gonna nap?”

“Paci…” She cried again, a pout forming on her lips.

I went to her crib and grabbed her favorite green paci, placed it between her lips and watched as she refused to move at all. After a few minutes, I left the room to clean up a little and when I returned, she was fast asleep in the exact position.

Sad Puppy

Sad Puppy

Luna is pouting in this photo.

I just yelled at her for bouncing around too loudly. Before you, dear Internet, send me hate mail about how horrible a dog mom I am for not allowing Luna to play, let me explain.  She thoroughly enjoys chewing on her brother, Red’s neck. And while I totally don’t mind them playing, there are times throughout the day (specifically early in the morning, before I’ve had my coffee) that it just isn’t as acceptable. Their jumping and growling prancing and dancing about can become really noisy and at 7:30AM, it’s a lot to handle. And if it’s a lot to handle for me, her owner who loves her dearly…then I KNOW it’s a lot to handle for the poor girl living below me.

So…I yelled at Luna (and not Red) because she is always the one who initiates it. And her ears went back, looking up at me with watery puppy eyes. She slowly climbed onto the couch and sighed a big puppy sigh and ignored me for the rest of the morning.

And what a blissful morning that was.
