Wedding Wednesday: Guest Attire
I love dressing up. You wouldn’t be able to tell from my typical daily uniform of yoga pants and a sweatshirt–but, seriously. I love getting ready, putting on something pretty, finding the perfect jewelry and hair matchup for the style I’m going for. I might even go as far to say that it is one of my favorite things.
However, I have to admit that I’m pretty awful at choosing appropriately. For instance, the one day I decide to wear my new open-toed d’orsay shoes WILL be the one day that we’re expected to get 12 inches of snow and ice. This is more the product of me being an idiot and not checking the weather first, but still. Another example? Sure, I’ll give it to ya–I once wore a dress to a baseball game. Another? I accidentally wore the opposing team’s colors to my high school’s homecoming game (How was I to know that their colors were blue and green!). The list goes on and on.
Choosing your outfit as a guest at a wedding is a tough one. Is it black tie? Evening wedding? Spring-day wedding? Then there’s all the weather issues you need to think about? Is it outdoor? Will there be flooring or will you be standing in dirt (beware of spike heels if you’re gonna be in the dirt!). In theory, you’re not supposed to stand out too much as a guest…but I think that’s sort of becoming an outdated mindset. Most brides I speak to really don’t care what their guests wear so long as it’s not white (that’s one tradition that I haven’t seen vary too much).
I found these little numbers on Bluefly by BCBG and immediately fell in love with them: I think this one is a little funky, but gorgeous. I love the way it drapes around the hips and I think it’d be perfect for a spring garden or beach wedding. And this one might just be my favorite - I love how you can add straps to it (perfect for when you hit the dance floor!). And of course, you can’t go wrong with a little black dress.
In regards to shoes, I always have the opinion of the higher the better! However, it can’t hurt to bring a comfy pair of jelly flats for later in the evening when you start to ache a bit. These BCBG shoes are super cute and this pair specifically I think would be perfect for dancing the night away. They’re cute, SO comfortable (yes, I have a pair) and have a little bling on them so they still seem wedding appropriate.
