I love coffee. Sometimes people try to switch my coffee to decaf when I’m not looking. I can always tell the difference. I also like Pringles, but only the reduced fat kind because they crunch better when you bite into them and they don’t leave grease on your fingers. I’m…

When I was looking to buy my wedding invitations (back in April), I found a lot of designers on Etsy. After narrowing it down to a couple different designs/companies, I contacted both for their pricing list. One was pretty significantly more expensive–almost $2 per invitation more. Which I think all…

When talking to people about photography, I hear one phrase over and over again: Kids and dogs are the hardest subjects to photograph.
I, personally, don’t have this problem with my clients…kids and dogs are among my favorite things to photograph. Maybe it’s because I like to have any excuse…

Last week, Sean and I had our morning coffee on the balcony and watched as the Enterprise shuttle was pulled down the Hudson on a tug boat. It’s on its way to the Intrepid and I can’t wait to see it up close at the museum!

Warren’s Newborn Session

This little guy did not want to sleep at all…despite the comfy beanbag he was sleeping on and the 87 degree temperature in my studio, he just wasn’t having it. He gave us about a 20 minute window of sleep and then he was ready to rock and roll. This has actually been a trend with my newborns lately…they all just want to party. I mean, I can’t really blame them–I’m pretty awesome. If I were around me, I’d want to stay awake and rock n’ roll, too.

Madison Naomi | New York City Newborn Photographer

I don’t know why this keeps happening–the falling behind on blogging. It’s pathetic. There’s no excuse. I’m a terrible person, etc, etc. That being said, I have (quite literally) 10 shoots or more that I have not blogged yet. And because I’m sort of OCD, the thought of those unblogged, unorganized thoughts makes my insides twist into knots. I mean…there are STORIES. THOUGHTS. IN MY HEAD. THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ORGANIZED. Unorganized thoughts–is there anything worse?? Answer: No, there is not–except maybe for an unorganized office.

Sidebar: My office really needs to be organized.

So, to avoid my head exploding all over my recently mopped floors (yes, I spent a good two hours sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming the furniture. If I had a dustbuster, I would have vacuumed my vacuum) I’m going to just blog some of the more recent shoots I’ve had and then work backwards as I have the time.

In the past month, I’ve had a ton of newborn sessions–there must have been a full moon because ALL my newborn clients who had reserved time slots went into labor within the same 5 day period. Below is one of the earlier born clients, beautiful Miss Madison. Nadine (mommy) originally came to me wanting maternity photos as well, but soon after our initial conversation, Nadine was admitted to the hospital for bedrest until birth. She spent months (literally MONTHS) in her hospital bed until just a few weeks ago when Madison decided she was ready to join us. Welcome to the world, little lady! Your mama is way stronger than I am–one week in a hospital and I would have been going stir crazy! Every year for your birthday, you should get your mom a gift, too!

“D” Family Newborn Session {Hoboken Newborn Photography}

This is the “D” Family–they just welcomed their first child, this beautiful baby girl into their family. I met Sheetal a couple months ago and we immediately got along. She and her husband are both such amazing people, and Sheetal is also a writer (although, she writes about political issues and education…you know, slightly more thought provoking than my posts about picking up doggie poop).

The day of the shoot, I met them at their home–and let me tell you, their apartment is the most gorgeous place I’ve ever seen. It was PRISTINE. I was afraid to step anywhere, let alone set up all my equipment! But they were both so warm and welcoming, that it wasn’t the sort of fragile home you would think. They weren’t afraid to live in their home which made it THAT much more beautiful. I’m still baffled at how their white couch remains so white and how their hardwood floors have not a single scratch on them. I was certain that they must have JUST moved in–but no. They’d been there for years. It put my 1-year old apartment to shame. Not because my apartment isn’t beautiful–but I’ll never be the girl who can have a white leather couch and not spill red wine on it. And my hardwood floors will always have scuffs and scratches–battle scars from owning 100lbs dogs.

Anyway, I digress. This post is about their beautiful baby girl–not their beautiful hardwood floors. And she really was a joy to photograph. Once she fell asleep, she stayed that way for a good 45 minutes giving us an amazing amount of time to capture those pinch-able cheeks and those chunky thighs.

Big Man Brody {Hoboken Baby Photographer}

This is Brody. I shot Brody’s 4 month pictures as well as his school portraits at his Daycare in Hoboken. And now I got to share in his first birthday portraits! These were literally taken on the day of his birthday and his mommy Kristy bought a special cake JUST for smashing. It might have been the cutest and funniest moment when he didn’t dive right in!

We all expected him to go head first into the icing, but he was so hesitant…like he was gonna get in trouble. We had to physically dip his hands in and force him to taste it. And even after that, he was still hesitant. Eventually, Kristy just had to pick him up and sit him on top of the cake!

I miss this little guy already (even though I just saw him in May)!

Another noteworthy moment…there’s a photo below where he’s standing in the basket–that was his FIRST EVER stand without holding onto something! He fell shortly after, but I caught the moment!

Sisters. And Babies. And Dogs. {New York City Maternity Photography}

Anne and Sophia are sisters and are both expecting boys within a couple months of each other! They wanted to do their maternity session together. The other requirement was that Anne’s dog, Chunk, be in the photos! Which I’m always happy to be photographing anything to do with babies or dogs…it was a perfect match up.

A few Graduates…

It’s that time of year again…when soon-to-be ex-students put on their cap and gown, shake the hands of their school’s president/principal and step into the world of adulthood.

Granted, since Chris was receiving his PhD from Cornell, I think it’s safe to say he’s been in adulthood for quite some time. =0) Doesn’t he look so handsome?? And ladies–hello, he’s going to be a doctor! You can’t beat that…

Unless you’re dating a comic book artist. No, wait–no. Doctor beats comic book artist. ;0)

Also having just graduated, is Julia and Tracey–two best friends (also pictured with Julia’s sister). The girls wanted a session in Bryant Park of them together and separately. They had fun playing with hats, different outfits and shoes, and changing in the bushes (even though bathrooms were around the corner ;0)

The Multi-Cultural Henny

Meet Henny! Henny was born in April (Hm, I think it was April) and you might remember her mommy’s maternity session. Henny is a traditional Norwegian name (Kristin is from Norway) and her daddy is Canadian. But they’re all living in New York! This kid is going to be a globe trotter–I can already tell!

Henny was an absolute doll during her shoot. She was so peaceful. Never cried. Sat in every position we put her in, looked at the camera…she was just beautiful.

The other key part we all noted about Henny–she inherited her father’s hairline! Check out the last photo where we found a way to highlight their similarities. Hopefully, she grows out of that!

The M Family {New York/New Jersey Family Portrait Photographer}

This is the M-Family–Christopher, their son, was one of the students I photographed in my preschool photography business. They loved their school photos so much that they wanted a family session so that they could capture portraits of little Genevieve as well. I also want everyone to take note of their cat in the last image–their cat (which I think they’ve had for 10 years or so) is named Grey Cat. Like Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Well, that cat was named Cat…but still. It’s similar!

It was such a blustery day that we all had to travel inside…it was just too cold for the kids to even enjoy themselves.

Playa del Carmen Wedding!

I’m finally getting around to blogging the January destination wedding I did in Playa del Carmen, Mexico! I photographed Julia and Patrick’s engagement photos back in July. They soon after asked me to be a part of their wedding down in Mexico.

I didn’t know quite what to expect–I had never been to Mexico and I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a crazy Cancun-esque party place or if it was going to be a resort-ish area. It was neither…and yet, sort of both. It had the party scene (which I did not partake in until AFTER Saturday evening =0) and it had the resort scene…but it also had this village feel to it. It was like a warm, small community where everyone knew each other and helped each other out. It really made me want to forget life in NY altogether and move to Mexico permanently! That is, until I remembered my puppies stuck in their kennel.

In any case, a special thanks to Julia and Patrick for kicking off 2010 with a bang!

Double the Cuteness. Double the Trouble. {Mini-Session Portraits}

Ok, maybe not so much with the trouble yet. Give them another 6 months before the trouble begins. You might remember Christian & Camille from their newborn session back in November? I think it was November, at least.

The twins are beginning their modeling career–these are their 4-month photos also doubling as their headshots. In fact, Christian already booked his first modeling gig with Carter - the ads will be coming out in June.

Interested in your own mini-session? Shoot me an email! They’re offered any weekday afternoon!
